Two Wellesley College boats rescued the dog and guided him back to shore.

Authorities have rescued a dog that escaped from its owner while chasing geese on a lake in Wellesley on Saturday, authorities said.

According to a police statement, at 8:18 a.m. Wellesley police and fire departments were called to Lake Waban for a report of a person and a dog in the water.

The statement said the owner went into the water to retrieve the Rottweiler, which was having difficulty swimming, but had to return to land due to the low temperature and the long distance the dog had traveled from shore.

Two Wellesley College boats rescued the dog and guided it back to shore, officials said, and a police drone located and tracked the dog during the rescue mission.
