Gary A. Johnston, age 80 of Shippensburg, passed away on June 25, 2024 at Carlisle Skilled Nursing.

He was born October 20, 1943 in Towanda, the son of the late Alex A. and Margaret (Wanagitius) Johnson.
Gary was an associate business planner for IBM in Mechanicsburg, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Mount Rock United Methodist Church. He was also the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #115 in Walnut Bottom.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hope M. (Walters) Johnston of Shippensburg; son, Gary A. Johnston, II of Shippensburg; daughters, Crystal Frye of Boiling Springs and Candace Johnston of Shippensburg; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral and Crematory, Inc.51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Resa Schrack will lead the service.
Gary will be laid to rest Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle with military honors from the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
