Great results from the Wimbleball Regatta

The Wimbleball Regatta, the second regatta in the West of England ARA Regatta Championship series, attracted 229 competitors who had to complete 60 races around the 1,000-metre course on Wimbleball Lake near Brompton Regis in Somerset, high in the Exmoor hills.

Conditions varied throughout the day with a crosswind occasionally roughening the water, but at no point was the course unrowable.

Neither Paignton nor Torquay put forward entries, but Dart Totnes provided entries in abundance, with Dartmouth adding their best entry of the season. Dart Totnes enjoyed considerable success, with Dartmouth achieving some fine results.

With two regattas, Paignton and Plymouth, previously cancelled due to course conditions, the Championship series has been reduced from ten to nine regattas as Plymouth do not intend to make another attempt. However, Paignton Regatta has been rescheduled for 10 August.

This Saturday, June 29, the crews travel to Bideford for the Port of Bideford Regatta on the River Torridge.
