Four-star EDGE recruit Smith Orogbo has committed to the Longhorns, bolstering their already impressive class that ranks among the Top 15 in the nation. Orogbo, a Houston native, was a highly sought-after prospect with significant interest from Oklahoma and Washington. However, Texas prioritized keeping him in-state, and his commitment is a testament to the program’s growing appeal. As On3 notes, Orogbo is ranked as the 26th overall player and the third-best EDGE in the 2025 class. His potential is immense, as he began playing football as a freshman in high school. In today’s SEC, a formidable pass rush is essential for survival. With the recent additions of Orogbo, Colin Simmons, Zina Umeozulu, and Lance Jackson, Texas has made significant strides in bolstering its defensive line. As the Longhorns navigate the competitive landscape of the SEC, their recruiting success will play a crucial role in their ability to compete at the highest level. The commitment of Smith Orogbo is a positive sign for the future of Texas football, as the program continues to attract top talent and build a foundation for success.

The Texas Longhorns’ first day in the Southeastern Conference went about as well as anyone could have hoped, as Steve Sarkisian and co. landed another huge addition to the 2025 recruiting class. The Longhorns already had a Top 15 class coming into the cycle, but after landing four-star EDGE Smith Orogbo’s commitment, Sarkisian has to be feeling pretty good about the future.

Orogbo is originally from Houston, TX, so keeping him in-state was always a huge priority for the Texas staff, with the Oklahoma Sooners and Washington Huskies as other major contenders. On3 rates Orogbo as the No. 26 player in the class and the No. 3 EDGE with one of the highest upsides of anyone in the class considering he didn’t start playing football until his freshman year of high school.

If you want to survive in the SEC, you need the best pass rushers. Texas has made big moves in the last two recruiting rounds, including Orogbo, Colin Simmons, Zina Umeozulu and Lance Jackson.
