Throughout the contest, the game remained neck-and-neck with neither team able to gain a significant advantage. Branford drew first blood in the third inning, capitalizing on a clutch hit to score the opening run. However, Trenton responded immediately in the bottom of the inning, tying the score with an RBI single. The deadlock continued until the fifth inning when Trenton’s bats came alive. A double from leadoff hitter Emily Lewis put runners on second and third, setting the stage for Sarah Jones’s game-winning hit. Trenton pitcher Madison Reynolds allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. At the plate, Trenton was led by Kaitlyn Burke, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. This is Trenton’s first state championship in softball.
