Club chairman Daniel Levy is known for his shrewd negotiating skills, often seeking to acquire players for less than their release clauses. However, Tottenham may face a similar situation this summer in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. Eze is reportedly valued at £68 million, as per his release clause. While Tottenham has expressed interest in the player, journalist Ben Jacobs believes it is unlikely that the club will meet the release clause. Jacobs suggests that Palace is unlikely to sell Eze for less than the release clause, making it a potential obstacle for Tottenham. Eze has been praised for his creativity and versatility, making him a desirable target for many clubs. Tottenham is particularly interested in adding more attacking options to their squad, and Eze would fit well into that role. However, the club’s reluctance to pay the full release clause could hinder their chances of securing his services. Tottenham has also shown interest in Stade Rennais youngster Desire Doue, who shares a similar profile with Eze. Doue can play on the flanks or in an advanced midfield role and could potentially be a more affordable option for Tottenham if they decide to pursue him instead of Eze.
Tottenham Hotspur have not exactly made a habit of paying the highest price for players.
It’s no secret that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known as one of the best negotiators in football.
Just 18 months ago, Tottenham were embroiled in lengthy negotiations with Sporting CP over the transfer of Pedro Porro.
Spurs eventually got their man and the Spaniard has become a key player under Ange Postecoglou. But it was a deal that left supporters frustrated as Tottenham attempted to land Porro for less than his release clause, leading to the deal being completed on deadline day.
And the Lilywhites could find themselves in a similar situation this summer in their pursuit of a current Premier League star.

Tottenham ‘unlikely’ to meet Eberechi Eze’s release clause
Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with a move for Eberechi Eze and have already enquired about the possibility of signing the Crystal Palace star.
The 26-year-old reportedly has a release clause worth £68million in his current contract at Selhurst Park.
Although Palace are ‘a bit nervous’ about Eze’s future, journalist Ben Jacobs has described the chances of Spurs paying the clause as unlikely.
“Nobody has contacted Crystal Palace directly yet. So I think this is a deal that still requires some patience,” the journalist said.
“I don’t think Eze is knocking on the door to leave at the moment either. But if clubs like Tottenham or Arsenal, or a club of that size, come knocking, they can, you know, clearly offer a pay rise and European football.
“Palace are, to some extent, a little nervous because they are aware that a lot of their players are in demand because they had such a good end to the season, but they are well protected with Eze. It is unlikely that Arsenal or Spurs will see value in activating the release clause.”

Eze is a ‘world class’ talent
Spurs are in desperate need of additional wide options and a suitable alternative to James Maddison. It is no coincidence that Tottenham’s form suffered as a result of Maddison’s dip in performance last season.
Eze would certainly be a good addition to Postecoglou, due to his creativity in midfield and his ability to play from the left.
Chelsea legend Joe Cole recently praised Eze’s talent and admitted he loves watching the Spurs transfer target.
“He’s one of the players I love to watch in the Premier League. He’s so balanced, he brings the ball, he goes both ways, and again, he’s one of those great players, when you have a world-class player, the game calms down around him. He takes his time,” he said.
Tottenham are yet to make a decision on Eze as the club have also been linked with Stade Rennais youngster Desire Doue.
The Frenchman has a similar profile to Eze, as he can also play on the flanks and in an advanced midfield role.
