The Medical Council of India has approved the Gorakhnath Medical College hospital and research center for conducting classes. Vice Chancellor Major General Dr. Atul Vajpayee stated that 50 students will be admitted to the university, which has a 450-bed hospital that will be expanded to 1,800 beds. The university, which was established in August 2021, currently offers non-clinical courses in nursing, paramedical, and pharmacy. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath serves as the university’s chancellor. “Obtaining permission to establish an MBBS program is a boon for the people of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, with the expansion of the hospital, more MBBS seats will be available in the future,” Rao said, noting that individuals from Gorakhpur, Basti, and parts of Bihar and Nepal would benefit. The state government’s “one district, one medical college” initiative is establishing 14 additional medical colleges in various districts. With these new institutions, the total number of MBBS seats is anticipated to surpass 11,000. Uttar Pradesh currently has 9,278 MBBS seats.

A total of 50 candidates will be admitted to the university, which is attached to a 450-bed hospital that is expected to be expanded to 1,800 beds, said Guru Gorakhnath University Vice Chancellor Major General Dr Atul Vajpayee.

The university started in August 2021 and currently offers nursing, paramedical, pharmacy and other non-clinical courses. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the chancellor of the university which is run by Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad.

“Getting permission to start an MBBS course is a gift for the people of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Also, with the expansion of the hospital, we will have more MBBS seats in the coming years,” Rao said, adding that people living in Gorakhpur, Basti, in Uttar Pradesh and parts of Bihar and Nepal will benefit from this.

The state government, under its ‘one district, one medical college’ campaign, is starting 14 more medical colleges in different districts. With new colleges, the number of MBBS seats is likely to cross 11,000. Uttar Pradesh currently has 9,278 MBBS seats.
