Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, the Sofitel Hotels Best Hotel in Southeast Asia, was recently honored with its first Green Globe certification. Inspired by Art Deco and located in the bustling heart of Sukhumvit in downtown Bangkok, the 32-story hotel embodies French sophistication.
Despite the recent recognition, the hotel has been proactive in adopting environmentally sustainable practices. This includes the use of Smart Room technology, which provides real-time management of the air conditioning systems to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
David Talbot, Hotel Manager said: “We are very proud of our first Green Globe certification. It represents our commitment to sustainable practices in all areas of our hotel. All of us at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit look forward to working on our sustainability initiatives in the future and becoming more involved in our community.”
The hotel has also significantly reduced its food waste by 20% by implementing the Winnow system, which helps kitchen staff track and analyze waste, and helps chefs refine the menu in the all-day dining restaurant to reduce future waste.
The effort to eliminate single-use plastic supplies continues, with soap dispensers now installed in both public and private bathrooms. In rooms where traditional soap bars are still offered, the leftovers are collected and donated to the Soap for Hope initiative, which recycles and distributes them to communities in need.
A commitment to sustainability is evident in the hotel’s approach to reuse. Following recent renovations, much of the furniture was refurbished rather than replaced. Tables were restored, chairs were repainted, and a policy was introduced to return reusable fish containers to suppliers to minimize waste.
In addition, the hotel is switching to the use of plastic water bottles by introducing new water filtration systems and drinking stations for guests and staff.
