Despite being world number one in the junior rankings, Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai succumbed to the fifth-seeded Chinese pair in three sets, 13-21, 11-21, in the final at the Among Rogo Sports Hall in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It marked their first defeat in three meetings against Hu and Lin. In the semi-finals, Khai Xing-Aaron overcame Taiwan’s Hung Ming Chen and Cheng Han Tsai, while the Chinese duo defeated compatriots Chen Jun Ting and Liu Jun Rong. Khai Xing-Aaron was the sole Malaysian finalist in the tournament. Other podium finishers included women’s singles player Siti Zulaikha Muhammad Azmi and women’s doubles pair Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting, who both claimed bronze medals. The mixed team event also yielded a bronze for Malaysia. Khai Xing-Aaron, world number 83, had won the Dutch Junior International Championships and Thailand Junior International Challenge titles this year. They became the first Malaysian duo to reach the final since Yew Hong Kheng and Ow Yao Han in 2010. Leong Jun Hao was Malaysia’s last men’s singles winner at the Asian Junior Championships, claiming the title in 2017. Mak Hee Chun and Teo Kok Siang’s victory in 2008 was Malaysia’s most recent triumph in the men’s doubles category.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) — Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai’s hopes of ending Malaysia’s seven-year drought at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships were dashed today by China’s Hu Ke Yuan-Lin Xiang Yi.

Despite being the world number one in the junior rankings, Khai Xing-Aaron was surprised by the fifth-seeded player in three sets, winning the 33-minute final at the Among Rogo Sports Hall in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 13-21, 11-21.

It was their first defeat in three meetings against Ke Yun-Xiang Yi.

In the semi-final yesterday, Khai Xing-Aaron defeated Taiwan’s Hung Ming Chen-Cheng Han Tsai, while the Chinese duo defeated their compatriots Chen Jun Ting and Liu Jun Rong.

However, Khai Xing-Aaron was the country’s only finalist this time, while women’s singles player Siti Zulaikha Muhammad Azmi and women’s doubles pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting took bronze, in addition to the bronze in the mixed team event.
