Stanford All-American Luke Maurer Transfers to USC
Former Stanford quarterback Luke Maurer has announced his decision to transfer to the University of Southern California (USC) for his fifth and final season of eligibility. Maurer, a three-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American, was a key member of Stanford’s success over the past four years. As a redshirt sophomore in 2022, he led the Cardinal to an 11-2 record and a victory in the Rose Bowl. He threw for 2,593 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions during that season. However, Maurer’s playing time was limited in 2023 by the emergence of 5-star freshman quarterback Cade McNamara. Maurer appeared in just four games, completing 29 of 53 passes for 348 yards and 3 touchdowns. With his eligibility winding down, Maurer decided to seek a fresh start elsewhere. He has chosen USC, which is led by head coach Lincoln Riley, known for developing talented quarterbacks. USC has been in need of a veteran presence at quarterback after Caleb Williams, last season’s Heisman Trophy runner-up, declared for the NFL Draft. Maurer’s experience and leadership will be valuable for the Trojans as they aim for a Pac-12 Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Maurer’s transfer to USC is a significant development for both programs. Stanford loses a proven leader and playmaker, while USC gains a talented and experienced quarterback who can compete for the starting spot. Maurer is expected to join the Trojans for spring workouts and will be eligible to play immediately in the 2024 season.Luke Maurer Transfers to USC for Fifth Year of Eligibility
Luke Maurer Transfers to USC for Fifth Year of Eligibility
The University of Southern California has announced that All-American swimmer Luke Maurer will join the Trojans for his fifth year of eligibility. Maurer, a freestyle specialist, will provide a significant boost to USC’s team as they aim to improve from their 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Championships this season. Maurer, who spent the previous four seasons at Stanford, has been a key member of the Cardinal’s relay teams. He holds school records in the 400-yard freestyle relay, 800-yard freestyle relay, and 400-yard medley relay. Individually, he ranks second all-time at Stanford in the 200-yard freestyle, eighth in the 100-yard freestyle, and ninth in the 50-yard freestyle. Maurer’s addition will be especially valuable in relay events. His best times in the 50-, 100-, and 200-yard freestyle would all rank among USC’s top 10 performers. He would have led the Trojans in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle during the 2023-24 season. USC finished fifth in the Pac-12 Championships this season, but will move to the Big Ten Conference in the fall. Luke Maurer’s younger brother, Rex Maurer, is also in the transfer portal after completing his freshman season at Stanford. His next destination has not yet been announced. Rex Maurer earned All-American honors as part of Stanford’s seventh-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay at the NCAA Championships.Stanford All-American Luke Maurer is transferring to USC for a fifth year.
