Star Observer

Prepare to have your blood lust quenched with the return of Bite Club, a queer horror anthology that offers up a delectable buffet of terrifying tales.

This second installment of Bite Club showcases the sinister imaginations of eight talented queer writers, including Keira Drake, Sam J. Miller, Gemma Files, and N.K. Jemisin. Each story serves as a standalone masterpiece, exploring the darker corners of the human psyche and the horrors that can lurk within. From the spine-tingling “Her Cold, Irony” by Keira Drake, which delves into the sinister world of internet trolls, to the atmospheric “The Butcher Bird” by Gemma Files, which transports readers to a remote island inhabited by a bloodthirsty cult, Bite Club: 2nd Serving offers a diverse and chilling array of stories. Sam J. Miller’s “The Ballad of Black Tom” stands out as a tour de force, reimagining the legendary H.P. Lovecraft tale “The Horror at Red Hook” from the perspective of a black man living in New York City in the 1920s. Miller weaves a haunting narrative that explores the intersection of race, class, and the supernatural. N.K. Jemisin’s “The Effluent Engine” is a thought-provoking science fiction tale that examines the consequences of pollution and the price of progress. Jemisin creates a dystopian world where the air is toxic and the only way to survive is to become part of a symbiotic relationship with a biomechanical engine. Bite Club: 2nd Serving is a triumph of queer horror, showcasing the diversity and talent within the LGBTQ+ writing community. These stories will not only terrify you but also challenge your preconceptions and leave you pondering the darker aspects of humanity. Whether you’re a seasoned horror fan or new to the genre, Bite Club: 2nd Serving is an essential read. It’s a chilling and unforgettable anthology that will haunt your dreams long after you’ve finished it.
