This week marks the annual enforcement action Operation Safe Driver Week of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).
Operation Safe Driver Week takes place from July 7 to 13 in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. The goal of the event is to reduce accidents caused by dangerous driving.
During the week-long effort, motorists can expect an increased law enforcement presence as police monitor both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers for dangerous behavior, including:
- Driving too fast
- Distracted driving
- Aggressive driving
- Following too close together
- Driving under the influence of drugs
Drivers caught behaving dangerously will be arrested and may be fined.
The focus area of this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week is reckless, careless and dangerous driving.
Data on traffic stops, warnings and fines are collected by law enforcement and reported to the CVSA.
