Legendary drag racer John Force has been released from VCU Medical Center, according to John Force Racing. He spent 15 days there.

As we reported earlier this morning, Brittany Force revealed that Force had been cleared to leave the hospital in Virginia. On Tuesday, he boarded an AirMedia ambulance for a three-hour flight to a neurological rehabilitation center.

At the time of going to press, the location of the rehabilitation center had not yet been announced. This rehabilitation center will help with his traumatic brain injury.

On June 23, Force was involved in a horrific accident during the PlayNHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, suffering catastrophic engine failure that resulted in an explosion.

This caused the living legend to crash into both guardrails before coming to a stop.

“The 16-time NHRA Funny Car Champion’s departure from the facility where he was transported after a crash at more than 300 mph was seen by family members as a major step forward in his recovery process,” the release said. “However, medical staff cautioned that the road ahead for him remains difficult. Force is dealing with cognitive and behavioral symptoms from the TBI and while he has been able to communicate with family and staff, enjoy the company of grandsons Jacob and Noah Hood and celebrate a birthday Monday with daughter Brittany, he is still prone to periods of confusion.”

At this time, it is not yet clear how long he will remain in this rehabilitation center, according to the family. This rehabilitation center was chosen by the family because of “the success in treating other drivers with similar problems.”
