The incident occurred in Nottingham outside Radford Road Police Station. The Corolla dangerously cut a corner, nearly colliding with a police car. Officers gestured for an apology, prompting a response from the driver. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Further investigation revealed that he was also driving without insurance. Inside the car, officers found a lock knife and a quantity of cannabis. A roadside drugs wipe confirmed the driver was under the influence of cannabis. Arrested and taken into custody, the 22-year-old driver was later released under investigation pending the results of a blood sample. PC Dan Bird, who made the arrest, emphasized the severity of the driver’s actions. “Had I not slammed on the brakes, there would have been a head-on collision,” he said. “It’s a good job we did as we went on to discover a string of other offences, including possession of an illegal weapon and drugs.” The driver’s dangerous behavior and disregard for traffic regulations resulted in multiple charges. The incident highlights the importance of responsible driving and the consequences of reckless actions.
A driver who almost crashed into a police car was left to regret his driving after officers pulled him over and discovered a string of offences.
Response officers stopped the Toyota Corolla (circled in red) after it cut a corner outside Radford Road Police Station in Nottingham, almost causing a collision with an oncoming police car.
The driver apologized using a hand gesture, with officers inside the police car then spotting he was not wearing a seatbelt.
They pulled the car over to speak to the driver about the seatbelt violation, with subsequent vehicle checks finding he was driving without insurance.
The 22-year-old man found himself in further trouble when officers found a lock knife inside the car along with a quantity of cannabis.
He then tested positive for cannabis following a roadside drugs wipe at the scene, in Gauntley Street on Sunday evening (7 July).
Officers arrested the driver and took him into custody for questioning. He was later released under investigation pending the results of a blood sample.
PC Dan Bird, who made the arrest, said:
“The driver was making a right turn into Gauntley Street, having just come down a side road, and dangerously cut the corner.
“Had I not slammed on the brakes, there would have been a head-on collision. The offending driver waved his hand to indicate an apology, but the manner of his driving and the fact he was not wearing a seatbelt meant we had no option but to pull him over.
“It’s a good job we did as we went on to discover a string of other offences, including possession of an illegal weapon and drugs.
“He was driving without a licence so the beggar’s belief he would drive in that manner outside a police station.
“Keeping people in our communities safe is our number one priority and we will always look to take action against offenders, as demonstrated by this arrest.”
