The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) have praised President Bola Tinubu’s recent measures to reduce food prices, describing them as “radical and proactive.”
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, TMV chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and secretary Sunday Gyungoun expressed optimism that the measures “will soon bear fruit” and “halt inflation.”
They commended the government’s decision to temporarily lift import duties on certain food products, such as wheat, corn, and rice, saying it was “the right step in the right direction.”
The TMV also highlighted the establishment of recommended retail prices for imported food products, which they believe will counter “the excesses of timid intermediaries who seek to take advantage of the situation.”
According to the organization, the measures show that the government is “responsible and responding to the wishes of the population.” They expressed confidence that these interventions will address food insecurity in the short term.
ABUJA (SUNDIATA POST) – The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) have described as “radical and proactive” the new measures taken by President Bola Tinubu to bring down the rising food prices.
The chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and secretary, Sunday Gyungoun, expressed optimism in a statement on Saturday in Abuja that the measures “will soon bear fruit”.
“The measures will halt inflation and help reduce food prices in the country,” the report said.
The organisation praised the bold initiative to temporarily lift import duties on certain food products, saying it was the right step in the right direction.
“We have reviewed all proactive measures including the suspension of duties, tariffs and taxes on imports of wheat, corn, eye peas and husked brown rice, among others.
“We believe that these steps will definitely reduce food prices in the country,” the group said.
According to TMV, the measures stem from genuine concerns and interests in the well-being of the population and farmers.
The intervention was said to reduce the inflationary trend in the food sector and pave the way for 250,000 tonnes of wheat and 250,000 tonnes of maize.
“For us, these proactive interventions are a sign that the government is responsible and responding to the wishes of the population.
“We are confident that these measures will ultimately address the problem of food insecurity in the very short term.
“We also recognise the drive to establish recommended retail prices for imported food products as this will make these products available and affordable.
“We are confident that this control measure will counter the excesses of timid intermediaries who seek to take advantage of the situation,” the group said. (NAN)
