They may have been uncomfortable, but they were ready to play the game.

On Saturday, 28 celebrities traded their hats for NFL stars, SNL stars and country artists at Globe Life Field in Arlington to compete in the 2024 MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game.

Comedian Tiffany Haddish was among those in attendance in Arlington who brought attention to America’s favorite pastime, while having a little fun in the process.

“When you play baseball, you have to chew that big bubble gum. Bubble gum, yum, yum, chew. I don’t know why they always chew. Maybe it’s frustration. Maybe they’re hungry,” Haddish said.

The game was just one part of a week of highly anticipated events for the second-ever All-Star Week, which was held in Arlington and the first at Globe Life Field. The event left Texas’ own Grupo Frontera on edge.

“I’m actually pretty nervous. The last time I played baseball was in Little League,” Payo Solis said.

“It’s a little bit different. You asked how we feel between the stage and here. The stage that we’ve been practicing on for years,” Julian Pena Jr. said.

Former Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Terrell Owens entered the game with tremendous concentration.

“When I play something, I play it to win. I know it’s fun for some people, but I play it to win,” Ownes said.

Over five innings, the celebrities competed in a low-stakes match that also featured moments of intense competition.

But ultimately, this game was about preserving tradition and fun.

All-Star Week continues on Sunday with the MLB Draft, followed by the Home Run Derby on Monday and the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night.

Thousands of baseball fans are expected to flock to Arlington for the various ticketed events.
