The incident occurred on Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m., when the driver of the tanker, Salau Semiu, lost control of the steering wheel. The truck, which was carrying 45,000 liters of petrol, veered off the road, overturned, and exploded. According to the Ogun State police, the driver and his assistant, Saheed, along with an unidentified female passenger, were killed in the explosion. Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and said an investigation has been launched. Traffic personnel and firefighters were deployed to the scene to control the situation and extinguish the blaze. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the State General Hospital mortuary for further investigation. In a separate incident, a tanker carrying 33,000 liters of petrol overturned in Odo-Sede in the Akeja area along Osi-Ikola in Ota. The tanker rolled backwards as it climbed a hill and overturned on Akeja Road. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this accident.

Our correspondent learned from the state police on Saturday evening that the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m., in which the driver of the tanker truck, with license plate T 623 LA X, lost control of the steering wheel.
According to the police, the truck was carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, and was en route from a depot in Lagos to Oyo State when the truck veered off the road and overturned, causing an explosion.
PUNCH Online learned that the explosion that resulted from the accident killed three people: the driver, his assistant and an unidentified female passenger.
Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said: “The truck was carrying 45,000 litres of petrol, loaded from Pinnacle Petrol Depot in Lagos and was en route from Ijebu Ode to Ibadan, Oyo State.
“We have launched an investigation into the accident. The Oru Divisional Police visited the scene of the accident and mobilised traffic personnel to stop the traffic. The Ogun State Fire Service also visited the scene of the accident. They responded promptly and the fire was extinguished.
“Documentary photographs were taken while the bodies of Salau Semiu and Saheed were deposited at the State General Hospital mortuary. Emergency services, Federal Road Safety Corps, OGS TRACE and other security stakeholders were mobilized to control the situation and clear the road.”
PUNCH Online reports that a similar accident was averted when a tanker carrying 33,000 litres of PMS sank at Odo-Sede in the Akeja area along Osi-Ikola in Ota.
The tanker, also coming from Lagos, rolled backwards as it climbed a hill and overturned on Akeja Road.
