This year’s BOMA of Africa, a joint initiative of AUDA-NEPAD and AfroChampions, will take place at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana. The historic event, which highlights Africa’s steps towards the ambitious Agenda 2063, will take place on 20 July 2024, from 10:00 to 13:30 GMT.

The event, which will be broadcast live via Zoom, takes place on the occasion of the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union, which is taking place in the capital of Ghana.

Under the theme “From the Africa we want to the Africa we build”, the 2024 edition of BOMA of Africa will celebrate the radical ideas and actions that are moving Africa forward. This festival of innovation and unity will feature debates, discussions and announcements of groundbreaking initiatives that illustrate the milestones of African integration and development.

The BOMA of Africa has become a leading platform to showcase the continent’s most inspiring achievements in unity and integration. Organized at the highest level, the event aims to go beyond discussions to concrete actions, inspiring Africans in various fields such as science, technology, education, creative arts and entrepreneurship.

Since 2019, AUDA-NEPAD and AfroChampions, together with other strategic partners, have organized this annual event during African Integration Week. This year’s BOMA coincides with the Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, further underscoring its importance in the continent’s commemorative calendar.

In a world marked by geopolitical shifts, technological advances, conflicts and economic turbulence, Africa’s strategic blueprint, Agenda 2063, has become urgent and necessary. Africa’s BOMA serves as a high point to showcase and celebrate strategic developments on this roadmap, and provides a platform to mobilize support for peace, security and development.

AUDA-NEPAD’s critical role in the implementation of Agenda 2063 is underscored by the co-hosting of BOMA 2024 with AfroChampions. This partnership demonstrates a deep commitment to mobilizing the continent for meaningful action and sustained progress.

The BOMA of Africa 2024 aims to:

  1. Showcase key projects and initiatives shaping Africa’s rise as a global power, such as AUDA-NEPAD’s Energize Africa, the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and the Agenda 2063 Dashboard.
  2. Present the second Sankoree lecture by a leading international changemaker, addressing Africa’s position in the global system.
  3. Introducing the first Sankoree Awards of 2024, honoring leaders who have advanced African inclusion.
  4. Generate high-quality input for policy and resource mobilization for artificial intelligence, biomedical innovation and digital trade.
  5. Validate the trillion-dollar framework to support SMEs, value chain facilitators and infrastructure developers through innovative financing mechanisms.
  6. Strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships for regulatory and policy harmonization in support of AfCFTA and PIDA.

BOMA 2024 will honour distinguished leaders whose visionary efforts have advanced regional integration and the mission of AUDA-NEPAD. Among the honourees are HE Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt; HE Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda; HE Macky Sall, former President of the Republic of Senegal; Madame Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, former Chairperson of the African Union; and Mr. Gervais Koffi Djondo, Co-Founder and former Chairman of EcoBank, Founder-President of ASKY Airlines.

The Africa BOMA 2024 is more than an event; it is a strategic milestone towards realizing the Africa we want. AUDA-NEPAD and AfroChampions reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the goals of Agenda 2063, setting a precedent for accountability, innovation and unity across the continent.

This year’s theme, “From the Africa We Want to the Africa We Build,” captures the essence of Africa’s journey. Through focused discussions on health, wealth creation, development financing and governance, BOMA 2024 aims to ignite new momentum to realize Africa’s continental aspirations. By spotlighting major projects and initiatives, the event fosters a spirit of collaboration and determination.
