Mandley, who was thrown from his vehicle, was transported to the hospital with severe injuries and later succumbed to them early Sunday morning. Three other individuals in his car sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the suspect’s vehicle initially fled the scene but were later apprehended nearby. The 22-year-old driver exhibited signs of intoxication and was charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, disregarding lane markings in a fatal accident, and DUI. As the investigation continues, authorities have discovered that the suspect’s vehicle entered the intersection while the traffic light was red. The driver is currently facing multiple charges, and the investigation is still ongoing.
PHOENIX — A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly causing a fatal crash while driving under the influence in Phoenix.
Phoenix police say they were called to the area of 35th and Southern Avenues around 5:45 p.m. Saturday for a reported two-vehicle crash.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw that a man had been thrown from one of the vehicles and was seriously injured.
The man, identified as 44-year-old Henry Mandley, was rushed to hospital, where he died early Sunday morning.
Three others in Mandley’s vehicle, a woman and two children, were all taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger in the vehicle believed to be at fault initially fled the scene. They were both found nearby and arrested.
The driver, a 22-year-old man, appeared to be under the influence.
Detectives learned the car at fault was traveling east on Southern Avenue when they attempted to pass stopped traffic in the bike lane.
They then ran a red light on 35th Avenue, causing the accident.
The driver is charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, disregarding lane markings in a fatal accident and driving under the influence.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing
