DEL CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — A book thief is on the loose after stealing a Del City woman’s library display stand that was meant for children living in the neighborhood.
Kennedy Henry was celebrating her birthday when she came home Friday night and realized that someone had stolen her small library.
“I went to my birthday dinner. I left my house at 6:57 and by 7:11 it was gone,” Henry said.
“I’ve always loved reading,” Henry said. “My mother always had trouble with me because I stayed up late reading.”
It was that passion and love that inspired Henry to place a small library stand outside her home.
“There’s an elementary school down the street, and the kids walk past it every day,” Henry said.
For months, “Aunt Kennedy’s Little Library” booth has provided free books to local children.
“They love it. They literally seemed so excited,” Henry said.
But Aunt Kennedy’s Little Library is no longer in the same place.
Henry’s camera shows that one moment the stand is still in place, and the next it’s gone.
“Nobody saw anything,” Henry said.
The stand was hand painted by Henry and her mother.
“It was yellow. We painted it pink and then my good friend Mikayla Walker hand painted all the butterflies and flowers,” Henry said.

Henry said she planned to keep her stall going for many years to come because it was full of books and all the kids loved it.
“I cried all night and the next morning I was so upset,” Henry said. “I have parents who say how much their kids loved it. They’re so sad it’s gone. Their kids were so excited. They traded them in every day.”
Heartbroken, Henry says she still hopes that whoever took her stand will reinstate her position.
“I hope that, by the grace of God, this will be reversed,” Henry said.
Henry said she plans to create another small library stand, but this time closer to her home.
