Unaware of Nair’s presence, the lift operator left and the building remained empty on Sunday due to a holiday. Nair’s family filed a missing complaint after failing to locate him. On Monday morning, technicians arrived to fix the lift and discovered Nair in an unconscious state. He was lying amidst excrement, according to a report by Kerala Kaumudi. Nair was rescued and hospitalized for a medical check-up. He was diagnosed with blood pressure issues but is now out of danger. Nair’s family intends to sue the hospital administration for negligence, claiming the lack of a notice about the malfunctioning lift. State Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

A regular medical visit to Government Medical College turned into a nightmare for a Kerala man after he was stuck inside a hospital lift for two days without any help. The incident is from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, where 59-year-old Ravindran Nair was rescued on Monday morning after technicians opened the lift for maintenance work.

According to reports, Nair, a native of Thirumala, went to the Government Medical College Hospital in the state capital on Saturday for a medical check-up when he got inside the lift of the OP Block. He claimed that the lift door didn’t open after he got in, leaving him stuck for two days. At the time, his mobile phone also fell to the ground and wasn’t working.

Unaware of the man’s presence, the lift operator closed the gates and left. The next day being a holiday, no one came to the building.

His family members said that Nair got into the lift to go to the first floor but claimed that the lift came down and did not open. They further said that he shouted for help, but no one came. His family even filed a missing complaint with the medical college police after failing to contact or trace him.

It was not until Monday morning that the technicians were called in to fix the issue and found him. “He was lying in an unconscious state in the middle of excrement,” states a Kerala Kaumudi report.

Nair has been rescued and immediately admitted for a medical check-up. The doctors diagnosed him with blood pressure issues, but he is now out of danger.

While the police are reportedly investigating the matter, his family intends to sue the hospital administration for negligence, claiming there was no notice board on-site to alert visitors about the malfunctioning lift.

State Health Minister Veena George has also taken cognisance of the matter and instructed the Director of Medical Education to intervene and conduct an inquiry into the incident, states a Moneycontrol report. This action came after an initial investigation by the Joint Director of Medical Education and the Medical College Principal and superintendent, reports said.
