New Delhi, India (India Bloomers): Shri Chirag Paswan assumed charge as the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries on Monday, 11 July 2022. Upon assuming office, Minister Paswan immediately convened an extensive meeting to review the progress and status of all ongoing schemes and initiatives under the Ministry. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Secretary, Additional Secretaries, and other senior officers of the Ministry. During the meeting, Minister Paswan emphasized the importance of the food processing sector in boosting agricultural growth, creating employment opportunities, and reducing food waste. He directed the officials to accelerate the implementation of ongoing schemes and explore new avenues for enhancing the sector’s contribution to the national economy. Specifically, Minister Paswan directed the officials to: * Expedite the approval and sanctioning of projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) * Focus on strengthening the food processing infrastructure through Mega Food Parks, Integrated Cold Chain Projects, and Food Testing Labs * Promote research and innovation in food processing technologies * Enhance the participation of women and entrepreneurs in the sector * Explore export opportunities for processed food products Minister Paswan also stressed the need for close coordination with other Ministries, state governments, and stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to the development of the food processing sector.
