An Elma Driver Faces Vehicular Homicide Charge in Fatal Crash
An Elma driver, Matthew Geiger, 37, has been charged with vehicular homicide after a three-vehicle crash on June 5th. The crash resulted in the death of 46-year-old Buckley resident Jesse Schweickert. According to court records, Geiger was driving under the influence of alcohol when his Chevrolet Blazer struck Schweickert’s Honda Pilot. Witnesses reported seeing Geiger’s vehicle driving erratically and leaving the roadway before colliding with Schweickert’s car, which was taking the southbound State Route 167 exit. After the initial impact, Geiger’s vehicle rolled over, and a third vehicle, a white Ford, struck it. The Ford driver was not involved in the initial collision with Schweickert’s car. Charging documents indicate that Geiger displayed signs of intoxication at the scene, including slurred speech and glazed eyes. He initially denied drinking or taking drugs, but a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.157, well above the legal limit of .08. Geiger was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. He is currently in custody and could face additional charges as the investigation continues. The tragic incident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives.
