The accident occurred around 2:37 pm between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations. Rescue Efforts Underway A team of 40 medical personnel and 15 ambulances responded swiftly to the scene, and additional medical resources are en route. Senior railway and government officials are also present to oversee the rescue operations. Gonda (PTI): Four people were killed and 20 injured when eight coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, officials said.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak told PTI that four people died in the accident.

According to GS Naveen Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Emergency Commissioner, 20 people were injured in the accident.

Neha Sharma, district magistrate of Gonda, who was present at the scene, said eight coaches of the train derailed. He added that the injured were being rushed to hospital and relief efforts were underway at the spot.

A 40-strong medical team and 15 ambulances have reached the spot and more medical teams and ambulances are being sent, Emergency Commissioner Kumar said.

Senior railway officials and local government officials are at the spot, about 150 km from Lucknow, to monitor the rescue operations.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Pathak, the priority right now is to save the lives of the injured and provide them with the best treatment.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Health are on the scene and sufficient ambulances have been deployed to transport the injured, he said.

“Train number 15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express which departed from Chandigarh on Wednesday evening derailed near Gonda Junction station, between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations, under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Railway (NER) around 2.37 pm on Thursday,” said Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northeast Frontier Railway.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took notice of the incident and has directed the local administration to provide relief to the affected passengers. The Chief Minister has asked the officials to ensure proper medical treatment to the passengers who were injured in the accident.
