Since turning pro in 2017, Daniel Brown has steadily risen up the rankings, culminating in a victory at the ISPS Handa World Invitational in his debut season on the DP World Tour.
The Englishman makes his Major debut at the 152nd Open Championship and is in a good position to potentially lift the Claret Jug in what would be a historic victory. But there’s still plenty of navigating to do before then and in this piece we take a look at which clubs the DP World Tour winner wears…
Director

Starting with the driver, it looks like Brown will be swapping the big stick in and out of the Ping G430 LST and the G430 Max 10K. For his DP World Tour win, the Englishman was in the Max 10K, but come The Open in 2024 it looks like he’s opted for the LST.
What we do know is that it has a Fujikura Ventus Blue 6 X Shaft, with the LST driver head itself, an impressive model that strikes a great balance between distance and consistency. Overall it’s a low spin offering with the high-tech looks and powerful feel to match its all-round performance.
Fairway forest

Like his driver, the fairway wood is also a Ping, this time the G430 Max set at 15 degrees and featuring a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 X shaft. It’s currently unclear if Brown carries any other fairway woods in his bag, but like many pros we wouldn’t be surprised to see him rotate them in and out.
The G430 Max is a long but easy to use fairway wood, popular with Tour pros and club golfers alike for its versatility and high launch characteristics. We also found it to be exceptionally forgiving; it is easily one of the best fairway woods on the market.
Irons

Brown’s irons are again Pings, with the Englishman using an i230 Utility 3-iron, which sits around the 19 to 21 degree limit. He also has Blueprint S irons which range from 4-iron to pitching wedge.
At the time of writing, we’re not sure what shaft is in the i230, but the Blueprint S’ feature True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100, a shaft we often see in most Tour players’ setups. As for the Blueprint S, it’s an excellent offering in the low-handicap, player’s cavity space, with the compact head and minimal offset appealing to the purist.
wedges

Moving into the short game department, and wedges, Brown opts to use the S159 in 50, 54 and 58 degrees. As for the 50 and 54, we believe they are in an S12 grind, while the 58 is a T6 grind, all with Nippon NS Pro Prototype shafts.
As for the wedges, we found them to look as good as any on the market and have the performance to match. During testing, the chipping and pitching aspect was exceptional and they also produced a strong, consistent ball flight when fired from a bit further out. They are easily among the best wedges you can buy, so it’s understandable why Brown has them in the bag.
Putten

The final club in his bag is the putter, which Brown has been changing regularly. Previously he used a Ping PLD Oslo 4, but at The Open it looks like he’s using the Ping PLD Anser or Answer 2D.
What we do know is that the Ping PLD series is among the best putters on the market and both models are designed for players with a slight arc in their strokes.
Ball

Like many Tour pros, Brown opted for the Titleist Pro V1, one of the best premium golf balls on the market. When we tested the latest model, we found that it added long-game consistency without drastically changing the characteristics that have made the Pro V1 so popular.
Clothing/Shoes

The shoes Brown is currently wearing are the FootJoy Pro/SLX, the next evolution of the brand’s Pro/SL franchise. It’s a hugely popular model on Tour and with its superior comfort and grip, as well as impressive stability, we can see why.
