According to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the 43-year-old male driver from Cavalier, ND, was operating a motorcycle with his passenger, a 43-year-old woman from Hamilton, ND. Around 11:00 p.m., the motorcycle struck a deer on the road. The impact caused the female passenger to be thrown from the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, became trapped underneath the motorcycle in the verge east of the road. He was transported to Pembina County Memorial Hospital with potential life-threatening injuries. Authorities identified the victim as a 43-year-old woman from Hamilton, ND, but her name was withheld pending notification of family. The driver faces charges of driving on a suspended license and driving without liability insurance. The 43-year-old Cavalier, ND man was driving north on County Road 4 in Pembina County, a quarter mile south of County Road 1, when he struck a deer in the road around 11 p.m.
Her passenger, a 43-year-old woman from Hamilton, ND, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene from her injuries.
The motorcycle ended up in the verge east of the road and the driver became trapped underneath.
The man was taken to Pembina County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a helmet. The driver is facing charges of driving on a suspended license and driving without liability insurance.
The Highway Patrol, Pembina County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Pembina County Fire Department and Pembina County EMS responded to the call.
