Allegations of Bias: Opposition members, led by Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, claimed that the rulings were biased against the opposition. They alleged that while they were being denied opportunities to file attention announcements, the ruling party members were being favored. Business Advisory Committee Meeting: Alemao pointed out that during a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, it was agreed that both the ruling and opposition members would be given equal opportunities to file attention announcements. However, he said that this agreement was not being followed. Call for Attention Denied: Alemao mentioned that he had filed a notice to discuss “delinquent and criminal tendencies in the Goa police” and another notice on safety issues at Vidya Prabodhini School in Porvorim. Both notices were not included on the agenda for the day. Speaker’s Response: The Speaker, Ramesh Tawadkar, assured Alemao that he would ensure equal opportunities for both sides to file attention announcements from now on. However, the opposition members were not satisfied with this commitment. Uproar and Adjournment: As the uproar continued, the Speaker asked Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar to move his attention announcement. Amidst the commotion, the opposition members rushed to the well of the House. The Speaker was forced to adjourn the House till 2:30 pm.

PORVORIM: Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar adjourned the House on Monday after opposition members rushed to the well of the House alleging discrimination in allowing and permitting attention announcements. The trouble started soon after Zero Hour when the Speaker asked Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar to move his attention announcement.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao demanded the status of the notice he had filed. “I had filed a notice to report ‘delinquent and criminal tendencies to the Goa police’. I also wanted to file a Zero Hour notice on the safety and health issues of children attending Vidya Prabodhini School in Porvorim due to the garbage dump and the incomplete structure of the school. But both were not on the agenda for that day,” Yuri said.
