Corporal Clark waded into the water and was assisted by a civilian to break a window on the vehicle. The officer then dove into the water and pushed the driver to the surface, the sheriff’s office said. The civilian helped pull the officer to the surface. No one was injured in the incident. The driver told the officer he misjudged the depth of the water and got stuck. He couldn’t open the door.” He said he was grateful for the assistance of Deputy Clark and the men who came to his aid. “The Sheriff’s Office is grateful to the two men who assisted. Without their help, this incident could have had a tragic outcome,” the statement on Facebook said.

An off-duty Durham County, North Carolina, sheriff’s deputy working at a shopping mall Monday rescued a driver from a sinking SUV after being alerted to the emergency by a Good Samaritan.

Corporal P. Clark responded to the scene and saw a white SUV in the water under an overpass. “The vehicle was being driven by a driver who was trapped by rising water from flash flooding earlier Monday afternoon,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
