Each year, Okyeame Kwame’s OK Foundation organizes a screening campaign to coincide with World Hepatitis Day, held on July 28th. The medical outreach provided free screening for Hepatitis B and C, hemoglobin levels, and malaria infection. Those who tested negative for Hepatitis B received free vaccination, while counseling and support were offered to individuals who tested potentially positive. Dr. Kwadwo Asamoah Kusi, Associate Professor at the Noguchi Memorial Institute, explained their decision to collaborate with Okyeame Kwame on the project, citing the impact and progress of his initiative over the years. Okyeame Kwame, who actively engaged with residents in Dome Market to raise awareness and encourage participation, emphasized his unwavering commitment to eradicating Hepatitis B in Ghana. He appealed for support from individuals and corporate organizations to further the cause. The drive has helped raise awareness about the importance of testing and vaccination for Hepatitis B, contributing to the ongoing fight against the disease in Ghana.

This year’s screening took place at the Dome Market and was conducted in collaboration with MDS Lancet Laboratories and the Noguchi Memorial Institute.
Every year, Okyeame Kwame’s OK Foundation organizes a screening campaign to mark World Hepatitis Day.
World Hepatitis Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide on July 28. Its purpose is to educate the public about viral hepatitis and to raise awareness of the global and regional burden of the disease.
This medical outreach is aimed at providing free screening for hepatitis B and C, as well as checking for hemoglobin levels and malaria infection. For those who tested negative for hepatitis B, there was also free hepatitis B vaccination. In addition, the team provided counseling and support to those who tested potentially positive.
According to Kwadwo Asamoah Kusi, associate professor at the Noguchi Memorial Institute, they decided to collaborate with Okyeame Kwame on this project because they saw how progressive his initiative had been over the years.
“Two years ago we had a conversation with Okyeame Kwame to join forces and that resulted in what we see today,” he said.

Okyeame Kwame, who led the team on the streets of Dome Market to raise awareness about hepatitis B and invite people to participate in a free screening exercise, said myjoyonline.com that the drive to eradicate the disease in Ghana has been the driving force behind the programme he has been running for fourteen years.
He also called on individuals and corporate institutions to join and offer assistance in various ways to further the cause.
