Arsenal have been linked with several potential players and their transfer plans could soon see a new development as a Bundesliga club director has confirmed that one of the club’s potential midfielders wants to leave this summer.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone has expressed his desire to leave the Bundesliga club. The 23-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and his current situation is fueling speculation.
Kone, who is currently playing for the French Under-23 team at the Olympic Games under Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, has informed Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus that he wants to leave the club.

Roland Virkus told Kicker: “Kone told us quite early on that he wanted to leave the club, but there is no movement on that either. We are looking at the Olympics and then we have to see what happens. If something happens, we will listen to it, but without the pressure to do it. In the end, it has to fit well for all parties.”
Recent reports from journalist Steve Kay suggest that Arsenal are very interested in signing Kone this summer. However, Virkus did not specify the exact fee required for Kone’s departure, although Italian outlet Tutto Juve reports that Monchengladbach are considering bids of around €40 million (£35 million).

While Kone remains a viable option for Arsenal, the focus appears to be shifting to another target. Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino has emerged as a more likely addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arsenal have shown significant interest in Merino, who impressed at UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are keen to secure Merino’s signature, with the player himself reportedly keen on a move to north London.
Should the Merino deal fall through, Arsenal could still pursue Kone as an alternative. For now, however, pursuing Merino appears to be the priority for Arsenal’s midfield reinforcement this summer.
