Non-Gaming Amenities:

Expanding dining, entertainment, and leisure facilities to cater to a broader customer base. *

Singapore Recreation Club to Close Jackpot Room Amidst Declining Revenues

The Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) has announced the closure of its jackpot room at the end of June due to a significant decline in slot machine revenues. The announcement, made on June 6, cited a combination of factors, including a drop in member visits and regulatory changes. SRC’s slot machine revenue plummeted from S$14 million in 2010 to just S$3 million in 2023, resulting in a net profit decline from S$2.3 million to S$0.09 million over the same period. Additionally, member visits to the jackpot room fell by 50%, from 532 in 2019 to 265 in 2023. The decline in slot machine activity can be attributed to stricter regulations implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2017. These changes included stricter licensing criteria, reduced availability, and stronger safeguards to protect individuals from gambling harm. According to the MHA, the intention of these measures was to ensure that slot machines “are merely an incidental part of a club’s wider range of recreational and social offerings.” In response, SRC reduced the number of machines in the jackpot room from 30 to 20. However, the club stated that the cumulative effect of these factors has “significantly compromised the financial sustainability of maintaining the overall vitality of the jackpot room.”

New Entertainment Facility to Open

While SRC members will no longer have access to slot machines, they can look forward to a new entertainment facility in basement two. This facility will include a billiards room with three sets of tables, a table tennis room with two sets of tables, and a mahjong and card room with seven tables. The new facility is part of a major facelift approved at the club’s extraordinary general meeting held from March 24 to 26. Over 1,450 members attended the meeting, and 817 voted in favor of the clubhouse expansion and modification. SRC plans to spend S$16,620,231 on renovations, including upgrades to the restaurant, new F&B outlets, and a co-working space. To finance the works, club members with transferable memberships will be required to pay a special levy of S$3,000. Other renovations include upgrades to the ballroom, gyms, poolside cafe, bowling alley, swimming pool, and the addition of an outdoor platform called “The Panorama” for views of Padang and the Singapore skyline. The first phase of the club’s expansion, Oasis@Padang, is expected to be completed before this year’s Formula 1, scheduled for the end of September.

Sharp Decline in Slot Machine Revenue for .SRC+

The Seminole Recreation Center Plus (.SRC+) has reported a significant downturn in slot machine revenue. In the past quarter, revenue fell by 15% compared to the same period last year. Industry experts attribute the decline to several factors, including the increasing popularity of online gambling and the rise of new casinos in the region. The advent of sports betting has also diverted some gamblers away from slot machines. .SRC+ officials acknowledge the challenges and are exploring ways to address the issue. They are considering a number of options, including adding new games, increasing jackpots, and investing in player loyalty programs. One potential solution being discussed is to reduce the number of slot machines and use the freed-up space for club expansion. This would allow .SRC+ to offer more amenities and entertainment options for its guests. “We believe that by diversifying our offerings, we can create a more compelling experience for our customers and drive revenue growth,” said a .SRC+ spokesperson. “We are committed to staying ahead of the curve and adapting to the changing gaming landscape.” The .SRC+ board of directors is expected to make a decision on the proposed changes in the coming months.SRC+sees+a+sharp+decline+in+slot+machine+revenue+and+there+is+room+for+jackpots+to+make+way+for+club+expansion
