The Exchange Club of Naperville has announced the cancellation of its annual Ribfest for this year, as confirmed by club president Emy Trotz. Trotz declined to provide reasons for the cancellation or whether the event would be held again in the future. “There is always a possibility that it could return, but I just know it wasn’t possible this year,” she said. The 2023 cancellation marks the third consecutive year that Ribfest has been axed, following its previous cancelations in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ribfest, which began in 1988, has grown into a major community festival attracting thousands of visitors from the Chicago area and beyond. It features slow-cooked ribs, concerts, and other attractions. Since returning from the pandemic, Ribfest has been held at the DuPage Event Center & Fairgrounds in Wheaton, having previously been held at Knoch Park in Naperville.
No Ribfest This Year, Says Exchange Club of Naperville President
The Exchange Club of Naperville has announced that there will be no Ribfest this year. Exchange Club President Keith Nykaza said the decision was made due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding large gatherings. “We are committed to the safety of our community and our volunteers,” Nykaza said. “We did not want to put anyone at risk.” Ribfest is a major fundraising event for the Exchange Club, which uses the proceeds to support local charities. Nykaza said the club is exploring other ways to raise funds this year. “We are working on a virtual event that we hope will bring in some revenue,” Nykaza said. “We are also looking at doing some smaller, socially distanced events throughout the year.” Ribfest has been a Naperville tradition for more than 30 years.
