Manulife and the World Economic Forum Launch the Prospering in Longevity Challenge Toronto, Canada and Cologny, Switzerland (May 10, 2023) – Manulife Financial Corporation (“Manulife”) and the World Economic Forum (“WEF”) today announced the launch of the Prospering in Longevity Challenge, a global initiative to accelerate innovation and collaboration to improve the lives of people living longer. The Prospering in Longevity Challenge aims to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the aging population around the world. By bringing together a diverse group of partners, including government, business, academia, and civil society, the Challenge will foster the development of new solutions that promote health, well-being, and financial security in later life. “As the world’s population ages, we need to find ways to help people live longer, healthier, and more financially secure lives,” said Roy Gori, President and Chief Executive Officer of Manulife. “The Prospering in Longevity Challenge will bring together the best and brightest minds from around the world to develop innovative solutions that address this critical issue.” “The aging population is one of the most important issues facing our world today,” said Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. “The Prospering in Longevity Challenge will provide a platform for collaboration and innovation to help us create a future where everyone can live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.” The Prospering in Longevity Challenge will focus on three key areas: * Improving Health and Well-being: Promoting healthy aging through initiatives that address chronic diseases, mental health, and social isolation. * Enhancing Financial Security: Developing innovative financial products and services that provide financial security for people in retirement and later life. * Creating Age-Friendly Societies: Building environments and communities that support the needs and aspirations of older adults. The Challenge will be open to participants from all sectors and regions. Partners will be selected based on their commitment to collaboration, innovation, and impact. The Challenge will be led by a Steering Committee co-chaired by Roy Gori and Klaus Schwab. The Steering Committee will provide strategic guidance and ensure that the Challenge meets its objectives. The challenge aims to develop innovative solutions that enhance the quality, health, and financial security of people as they age. It will focus on three key areas: * Financial security: Helping people plan for and manage their finances in retirement, including addressing challenges such as longevity risk and healthcare expenses. * Health and well-being: Promoting healthy aging and providing access to affordable healthcare and support services. * Social engagement and purpose: Creating opportunities for seniors to stay active, engaged, and connected with society. The challenge invites participants from diverse backgrounds, including businesses, governments, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Participants will submit proposals for innovative solutions that address the needs of aging populations. A panel of experts will evaluate the submissions and select up to 10 winners. The winners will receive financial support, mentorship, and access to a network of experts to bring their solutions to scale.
