Injury Dampens Tahj Washington’s Dolphins Camp HopesInjury Dampens Tahj Washington’s Dolphins Camp Hopes As the Miami Dolphins prepare for training camp, news of another injury has dampened the excitement surrounding the team’s young players. Wide receiver Tahj Washington, a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list. Washington’s injury status means he will miss a crucial time for players to impress coaches and earn roster spots before the start of the regular season. The Dolphins have a deep receiving corps led by Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Odell Beckham Jr., leaving little room for error for Washington to prove his worth. Despite his limited chances at the receiver position, Washington was seen as a potential contributor on special teams. However, his injury may hinder his ability to showcase his talents in that area. The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate for Washington, as he had just joined the team for the start of training camp. With the veterans yet to arrive, this was a valuable opportunity for him to make a strong impression. The severity of Washington’s injury is unknown, and it remains uncertain how much playing time he will miss. However, his absence from the field will make it increasingly difficult for him to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. The Dolphins’ rookies, including first-round pick Chop Robinson, will be under intense scrutiny during training camp. With Washington sidelined, it adds another layer of competition for the remaining roster spots. While it is still possible for Washington to overcome this setback, the injury has certainly complicated his chances of making an immediate impact for the Dolphins. Time is running out for him to prove his worth, and his preseason absence may ultimately lead to him being assigned to the practice squad.
It wouldn’t be a Miami Dolphins summer without more injury news before training camp kicks off. With the rookies reporting first, there’s a lot of excitement about how the young players will perform heading into Week 1.
It remains to be seen, however, when we’ll first see wide receiver Tahj Washington. Taken in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Washington already had a mountain to climb to make the 53-man roster. Now that he’s on the active/physically unable to perform list, his chances of sticking around come the season opener only increase:

It’s unknown at this time what kind of injury/issue is keeping Washington from training, but the timing couldn’t be worse. The Dolphins rookie reported just before the start of training camp, an exciting time for all Year 1 players.
There will be a lot of eyes on first round pick Chop Robinson and rightfully so. However, all the other guys already in South Florida will also be trying to make a name for themselves before being joined in town by the veterans.
The Dolphins have a ton of wide receivers, with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Odell Beckham Jr. With so much depth behind those three, Washington is left on the sidelines for a WR spot, but the hope was that he could be a difference-maker on special teams.
No one knows how much action he’ll miss, but this isn’t a great start to camp for him. The more time Washington is off the field, the more likely it is that he won’t be on the field Sept. 8 against Jacksonville and will likely end up on the practice squad. There’s still time to change that, but things have gotten complicated for the seventh-round pick.
