Nottingham Forest have made two statements (see below): they have bought one player from Newcastle United and sold another to NUFC.

Odysseas Vlachodimos has moved to St James’ Park for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old Greek international left Benfica for Nottingham Forest a year ago for £8 million.

Upon arrival at the City Ground, 21-year-old NUFC homegrown player Elliot Anderson has been signed for a reported £35million, although both clubs have not disclosed the transfer fee

Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest, sold along with Yankuba Minteh to Brighton as the 2023/24 accounting season closes on Sunday 30th June. The pair were sold for a combined fee of close to £70m, if media reports are correct, and it is widely understood the sales have been essential (barring other NUFC player(s) selling) to ensure Newcastle United remain on the right side of PSR.

Official statement from Nottingham Forest regarding the signing of Elliot Anderson – 1st July 2024:

‘Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce the signing of Elliot Anderson from Newcastle United.

The midfielder has signed a five-year contract, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.

Anderson arrives at The City Ground having been on Newcastle’s books since the age of eight, going on to make 55 appearances for the Magpies and 44 Premier League appearances by the age of 21.

Anderson is a creative midfielder who can play as either a number eight or a number ten. He made his Premier League debut against Arsenal in January 2021 after several excellent performances for Newcastle U23s.

An initial move away from St James’ Park came midway through the following campaign and played a hugely influential role in helping Bristol Rovers win promotion from Sky Bet League Two, registering eight goals and five assists in just 21 games for the Gas.

The loan proved to be a catalyst for Anderson’s development, with his return to Tyneside in 2022/23 seeing him make 27 first-team appearances as Newcastle qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Anderson made 26 further appearances for Eddie Howe’s side in the 2023/24 season, providing two assists in just 10 appearances as a Premier League starter. In September he made his Champions League debut against AC Milan at San Siro.

Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson said: “We are all delighted to welcome Elliot to Nottingham Forest and delighted that he has chosen to further develop his talent with us in the Premier League.

“We are confident he will thrive in a Forest shirt, as other players in his age profile have done.

“Once the opportunity arose for him to potentially join, it was something we were all excited about.”

A full first interview with Anderson will be published on Forest TV on Monday.

Welcome to Nottingham, Elliot!
