Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with head trauma. The victim had been in contact with two unknown individuals, a man and a woman, for drug-related purposes. During the encounter, the victim was struck multiple times in the head with an unknown object, possibly a stick or pipe. Fearful for their life, the victim removed their clothing as instructed. The perpetrators then fled with the victim’s belongings, including clothing, cash, and a cell phone. Based on descriptions from the victim and a witness, officers apprehended the suspects, 29-year-old Samantha R. Thexton and 24-year-old Tom A. Blake Jr. Probable cause led to their arrests for first-degree theft. Blake, who has a history of criminal offenses, exhibited overdose symptoms during the arrest and required Narcan administration. He was later booked into the Spokane County Jail alongside Thexton. Blake’s bail was set at $50,000 for the robbery, while Thexton’s was $10,000. The victim sustained minor head injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On July 16the2024 just before 4:30 p.m., SPD responded to the area of ​​Indiana Avenue and Atlantic Street for a report of a robbery. Officers arrived and found a victim suffering from head trauma. Information provided to SPD revealed that the victim had been in contact with two individuals, unknown to him, a male and a female. The nature of the contact was drug related. During the interaction with the two, the victim was struck multiple times in the head with an object that appeared to be a stick or pipe.

The victim was told to remove his clothing during the attack. Out of fear, the victim complied. Both suspects then walked away with the victim’s clothing, some cash, and a cell phone. Given descriptions of the suspects by the victim and a nearby witness, officers quickly located the man and woman involved. Upon completion of the investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest the following suspects for 1st Degree theft:

  • Samantha R.Thexton (29)
  • Tom A. Blake Jr. (24)

Blake has an extensive criminal history and has previously been convicted of 3 crimesrd Assault in the first degree. Before Blake was booked into jail, he exhibited symptoms consistent with a drug overdose and was administered several doses of Narcan and cleared by medical providers. Blake was subsequently booked into the Spokane County Jail, as was Thexton, and both appeared before a judge this afternoon. Blake’s bail was set at $50,000 for the robbery, while Thexton’s was set at $10,000. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor head injuries.
