A 30-year-old woman, who worked as a domestic help in Delhi’s Dwarka area, was arrested on Sunday for stealing gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs. She bought a DSLR camera to shoot “high-quality” video content for her Instagram and YouTube channels, officials said.

The woman, identified as Neetu Yadav, wanted to buy a Nikon DSLR camera to shoot Instagram Reels and YouTube videos, but was arrested by the Anti-Burglary Cell of Delhi’s Dwarka district police soon after the theft.

The owner of the bungalow filed a report. He claimed that his gold bracelet, a silver chain and silver jewelry had been stolen and suspected that his housekeeper was behind the crime.

The police tried to call Neetu on her mobile phone, but it was switched off. They also discovered that the address she had given was fake.

After reviewing the CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and talking to locals, he was able to trace Neetu’s actual location.

The suspect was arrested when she tried to escape from Delhi with a bag, police said. The stolen gold and silver jewellery was also found on her.

During interrogation, Neetu stated that she lived in Rajasthan and that she had come to Delhi because her husband was a drug addict and used to beat her.

While working as a domestic helper in different houses, she started making Instagram Reels and YouTube videos. Someone advised her to buy a DSLR camera to make videos as it gives good resolution.

But when she checked the price of the camera, she realized that she could not afford it. Neetu said that she even asked her family members for a loan, but they refused.

When she started working in the bungalow in Dwarka, she saw the jewellery in the house and decided to steal it to get money for the camera.
