Filipino Gymnasts End Paris 2024 Olympic CampaignFilipino Gymnasts End Paris 2024 Olympic Campaign At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, three Filipino female gymnasts represented their country for the first time in six decades. However, their campaign ended prematurely after the qualifying results for the women’s artistic gymnastics all-around competitions. Levi Jung-Ruivivar, Emma Malabuyo, and Aleah Finnegan gave an impressive performance but ultimately fell short of advancing to the finals. Jung-Ruivivar placed 40th, Malabuyo 41st, and Finnegan 47th. Only the top 24 in the all-around and the top 8 in each apparatus progressed to the medal round. Despite not making it to the finals, the gymnasts received high praise for their determination and representation. The Philippine Olympic Committee acknowledged their efforts, stating that they inspired the nation. Jung-Ruivivar, the youngest at 18, qualified for the Olympics after winning silver on the uneven bars at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series in Qatar. Malabuyo, 21, qualified after placing third at the Asian Gymnastics Championships in Uzbekistan. Finnegan, also 21, retired after the 2021 US Gymnastics Championships but was invited to represent the Philippines at the 2022 Southeast Asian Games, where she won medals. The last time female Filipino gymnasts competed at the Olympics was in 1964, with Maria-Luisa Floro and Evelyn Magluyan representing the country. The 2024 Paris Olympics concluded on August 11th.

Levi Jung-Ruivivar and Emma Malabuyo finished in 40th and 41st place respectively, while Aleah Finnegan came in 47th.

Those in the Top 24 in the all-around and the Top 8 in each apparatus advanced to the finals of the event. Only two gymnasts are allowed to represent their country.

Jung-Ruivivar and Malabuyo scored 51.099 points in qualifying, while Finnegan had 50.498, missing out on the medal round.

Jung-Ruivivar scored 13.600 points on vault, 13.200 points on uneven bars, 12.433 points on floor and 11.866 points on balance beam.

Malabuyo scored 13.266 points on vault, 13.100 on floor, 12.500 on uneven bars and 12.233 on balance beam.

Finnegan scored 13.387 on vault and 12.733 on floor, 12.566 on uneven bars and 11.466 on balance beam.

Simon Biles of the United States was the best all-rounder with 59.566 points. He scored 15.300 points on vault, 14.433 points on uneven bars, 14.600 points on floor and 14.733 points on balance beam.

Jung-Ruivivar, the youngest member of Team Philippines at 18, secured her spot at the Olympics after winning silver on the uneven bars at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series in Qatar last April.

Malabuyo, meanwhile, qualified for the Games after finishing third at the Asian Gymnastics Championships in Uzbekistan in May. The 21-year-old athlete was a member of the U.S. national team from 2016 to 2019 and was a reserve at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. She won a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Championships on floor exercises.

Finnegan had planned to retire after the 2021 US Gymnastics Championships but was invited to represent the Philippines at the 2022 Southeast Asian Games. The 21-year-old won two gold and two silver medals.

The last time female gymnasts from the Philippines competed at the Olympic Games was in 1964. with Maria-Luisa Floro and Evelyn Magluyan as representatives.
