According to court documents, the man assaulted his partner on March 5, 2023, while they were both employed at the hotel. The victim, who was also a co-owner of the establishment, suffered bruising and other injuries as a result of the attack. The incident was reported to police by hotel staff who witnessed the altercation. The man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and common assault. In court, the man pleaded guilty to a single count of common assault. He was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $500 in court costs. He was also issued with a six-month restraining order against his partner. The incident has shocked the small community of Gnowangerup. The hotel is a popular local establishment and is known for its family-friendly atmosphere. The 53-year-old man appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where he was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and unlawful damage. The charges relate to an incident that occurred on April 16 this year. Police allege the man assaulted a 52-year-old woman at the Gnowangerup Hotel. The woman was allegedly hit in the head and kicked in the stomach. The man was also charged with unlawful damage after allegedly damaging the woman’s phone. The man pleaded guilty to both charges. He was fined $2,500 and ordered to pay $500 in costs. He was also placed on a 12-month community-based order. As part of the order, the man must undertake alcohol counselling and a men’s behaviour change program.A co-owner of the Gnowangerup Hotel has pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to a patron with a glass. The 38-year-old man appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Tuesday and entered the plea to the charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 28, 2022, after the victim allegedly made inappropriate comments to the co-owner’s female partner. The co-owner allegedly struck the victim in the head with a glass, causing a 5cm laceration that required stitches. The victim was taken to Albany Regional Hospital for treatment. The co-owner was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear in Albany District Court for sentencing on March 10. In a separate incident, a 35-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a police officer after allegedly punching a constable in the head during an arrest in Albany on Monday night. The man appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to reappear on Wednesday. The constable sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
